Matmi welcomes a new addition to the development team – Stephen Hart…
How did you get in to development?
My first taste of development was making games using Blitz Basic on my old Amiga. I dipped in and out of it through the years as new things came out, like the Games Factory & Flash. I ended up getting fully back into development when Unity rose to popularity and didn’t really look back!
I used my skills that were self-taught to get on a development course for working with VR applications, which led to my first development role.
What do you enjoy the most about developing?
I’m a creative at heart, so I enjoy the process of taking an idea and making it into a real thing, which is essentially what development is. In terms of app & game development specifically, it’s fun to bring together visuals, audio and interactivity to make something interesting.
What has been your proudest dev moment so far?
Any time code compiles without errors is always a proud moment!
If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 things would you want to take with you and why?
Duct tape, as Mythbusters proved it’s immensely useful if trapped on a desert island.
Some sort of Multitool, as it would also be useful
And finally, a boat, because it’s cheating but I’d probably want to leave at some point!
Who would you most like to meet and why?
Devin Townsend – because he’s a musical genius and seems like a fun person to be around.
Tell us one unique/amusing fact about yourself.
When I was very young, I was made an honourary Brownie.
Any tips for budding devs?
There’s always new things that you can learn, and it’s never too late to start learning. Development is something that you learn much better by doing, and it’s never been easier to get into and start making things!
