We are extremely excited to be working with Alton Towers Resort again, once more we’ve teamed up with TBWA\Manchester to create a digital experience for Galactica, their new Virtual Reality roller coaster.
The game takes users through portals, to discover three areas of the solar system; a new ice planet, the fires of a hot lava planet and the vastness of deep space. Players swoop beneath space debris, dodge rocky landscapes and swerve around icy obstacles, it’s a competition to see who can venture the furthest into the far reaches of space.
The game also taps into players’ competitive side with the ability to sign in with Facebook. Once signed in players will see location markers showing where their friends have reached, notifying them when friends fly past.
Complementing the ride’s theme of virtual reality, the app also boasts an augmented reality scanner, which gamers can use to reveal exciting content, both in the resort and off.
Nathan Broadbent, Digital Strategy Director at Matmi said “It’s been exciting to work with Alton Towers again. We delivered a solution that incorporates addictive game play, and a gamification system to keep players engaged by customizing their experience or winning a trip to the park. The ‘pièce de résistance’, due to be implemented when the ride opens, is that thrill seekers can sample the new VR roller coaster, which is compatible with a Google Cardboard headset for an exhilarating at home experience.”
Fergus McCallum, CEO of TBWA\Manchester added “In the past the roller coaster experience was limited to the park alone. With this app we have thrown open the virtual park gates, enabling thrill seekers to enjoy the excitement of the new ride, months ahead of its official launch in April.”
